One of the primary talents a child develops is the ability to think and reason for themselves. This standard, but important part a child’s learning, is most evident to parents, guardians and carers, when the young mind starts to show displays of intellectual independence, of which the most common example is when they start to use the word ‘No’.
This simple act shows that the child has begun to contemplate events before they happen and are evaluating them on how they will affect their immediate future. From an observational perspective, this is a fascinating moment in the growing of an individual. These simple acts of defiance show that the child is now not simply the fully compliant and depending addition to the family, but is showing their character beyond the affection and tantrums that came before, and begins the parental/supportive challenges of dealing with this stage of a child. The stage of a more interactive moment of guiding and dealing with a young child establishing themselves.
Often one of the methods for an adult trying to guide and gain control of these moments is to describe and explain the consequences of the choices being presented. We should not be fooled that just because a child cannot vocally express rather complex statements, their inability to comply is not because they don’t understand the words, but because they are just beginning to understand the concept of thinking and reasoning, with regard to consequences.
To support a child’s development of this, it is not really advised to use descriptions such as defined characters, like showing a TV show, as a child still sees these as set series of steps. For example, they would be so familiar with the story of the Three Little Pigs, that they cannot contemplate the idea of the wolf going off to the houses in a different order. Instead, useful examples to use, and useful tools for them to constructive establish for themselves, is through the play with Back to Basics toys, such as Kardtects.
Building a card house is driven through the child’s imagination, unlike some other building systems, which normally leave rather defined designs of construction. Kardtects offers a child the subconscious exercise of designing in their minds the layout of the building. Even as they pick up the cards to play, they are already actively thinking of the amount of space they are going to require for their build.
This collective exposure to thinking and reasoning, not only allows parents/guardians/carers opportunities to show the child, through play, the lessons of thinking and consequences of choice, but the Back to Basic toys give the child self-contained lessons in the same fields. These skills are what make children become well-rounded, independent and successful adults.
Kardtects gives children the Power to Build in multiple ways.
