The Kardtects building card system includes numerous collectible cards to build an unlimited amount of card houses. The Forbidden Jungle building cards, featuring Stilts, is this week’s highlight in Fun Facts Friday.
Jungle Huts are often built on Stilts. The reason for this is not only to protect the Homes from flooding, but also the many vermin and insects crawling across the ground.
I recently read The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston, a book sharing an actual search for a lost city in the Jungle (and Found!), and the following paragraph describes how the jungle floor becomes alive at night:
“…..probing the ground all around with my flashlight, looking for snakes. A cold and clammy mist had descended, and the forest was dripping with condensation. There were no snakes, but the entire forest floor was carpeted with glistening cockroaches- thousands of them rustling in frantic activity, looking like a greasy, jittering flow- along with dozens of motionless black spiders whose multiple eyes gleamed like pinpoints of green.”
The use of Stilts helps protect against the above and for all the other creeping small animals roaming around at night (and day).
Within the Starter Box of the Forbidden Jungle set are common bamboo wall, jungle hut door and windows, thatch roof, and 1 ultra rare door cards. The backside of the bamboo wall cards, which are solid green, can be used as Stilts to build with in this set.
However, in the Expansion Packs, are available to be found and collected, building cards featuring Wooden Stilts. There is the Common Stilt Building Card (FJ5). Shown above.
And then an Uncommon Stilt with Vines Building Card (FJ26). Shown Right.
Here is the checklist (front and back) of all the collectible building cards available for finding in a Forbidden Jungle Expansion Pack. This checklist is included in an expansion pack.
The method used to build a jungle hut on stilts begins with the ‘Pillar Method’.
To build this, you would stand one card upright, and lean a second upright card against it, in front. A third card is placed in back. Make as many ‘Stilts’ needed for the width and depth of the card house you want to build. A platform of cards is placed across them, for you to then build the Jungle hut upon.
Watch the Video of the Jungle Card House being created to see how the Stilts and platform are built.
