Most people when they think of a house of cards imagine a structure just barely staying up. They picture a person’s unexpected sneeze or the air of a person walking by being enough to bring the whole thing tumbling down. However, this is not the case for Kardtects card houses. Built by using what Kardtects call the T-Method, a person could actually stand on his house of cards!
I’ve tested certain levels of bases for this. I started with one level, of course. Positioning single Kardtects cards in T formations and creating numerous square grids, I built a large base to stand on. Before hopping on top (okay, gently stepping (it was a test)), a piece of ½ inch plywood was laid over the card structure to distribute the pressure of our steps and weight. It wasn’t just myself testing this first level. I had two of my teenage kids (5’7” and 6’4”) sit on top with me. It was going to be fun! But then we knew we were only going to fall 3.5 inches if it didn’t hold. It did hold and attached is an image of all three of us sitting on it. We posed as See no Evil, Hear no Evil, Speak no Evil. Seemed appropriate.
What about three, five, or seven levels? Seven levels would be over 2 feet tall! Well, we built them and gave it a go. I was able to walk on them too! To the right, I am shown sitting on top of the five level card house.
Recently, I got the urge to test standing on a 10 level card house (almost 3 feet tall!). Built like I did before; positioning single Kardtects cards in T formation (like shown above), a ten level foundation was created. It is this foundation I use to build over 20 foot towers on. These foundations do need to be strong, and I don’t double up on any cards. Single Kardtects cards are simply placed by using the T Method. This gives the core of the structure an inner strength to hold the weight of a person…or a few maybe. We’ll test it sometime.
The following video shows me stepping onto the 10 level card house for the first time; single cards, no glue, notching, folding or anything of the cards. Just built T style and edged off. I had never tested standing on a 10 level card house before. And even though I felt confident it would hold me, I wasn’t completely sure, because I hadn’t tried it yet! I was a little nervous….I would be falling 3 feet, unexpectedly, at any time, if it didn’t stand. I thought a dunking booth without water was a good comparison to doing this.
Because I stepped all on the one side of the structure, the card house did wobble some and cards from the side fell. This wobble caused me to act like I was surfing when I got on top…….not that I am good at surfing, and that would explain why I am standing as I am…lol…It was fun and Kardtects passed the test.
A person of my size can stand (and surf ;)) on a 10 level Kardtects card house. This certainly shows it’s not a structure barely staying up. Kardtects card houses have amazing strength and a simple sneeze is not going to bring them down!
Have a watch!
