On the standard wall card of the Grisroc Starter set can be seen the artistic addition of moss. Many ancient castles and other stone structures would have moss growing on their stone walls. Its added color offers a nice break to the grey stone, and since moss has the ability to grow on almost any hard surface which satisfies its need for moisture, it’s a natural feature.
Unlike other plants, moss does not have roots or a system to transport water throughout itself. It must absorb water, like a sponge. Dried moss is known to be a superior substitute for a sponge, as it is known to absorb up to 20 times its own weight in water.
For this reason, mosses in ancient times were used for baby diapers, and in some primitive locations, mosses still serve well for this purpose.
Another known use for mosses in the past, because of their absorbent nature, was as first-aid dressings in World War I. The mosses were able to absorb more than cotton, and retained liquid better. The mosses were even claimed to provide some medicinal qualities against infection.
Who knew some of the great wonders and fun facts about Moss?!
So when building with the Grisroc Wall cards, consider the Moss as not only being an attractive addition to the wall, but a very useful item. And just one other benefit to mention, which might come in handy if facing battles from Dragon Destroyers from another Castle, is moss can also be used to extinguish fires.
