The Kardtects Jungle set is possibly the most dynamically growing set out of the Kardtects card houses and building cards collection. As originally, the set began as offering only bamboo structures with straw-covered roofs, but now an entire jungle village can be built, either on the ground or resting on huge pedestals. Besides this, whole lost temples can be found, half hidden by growing tendrils and dense foliage. It really is an exciting series, yet the very nature of jungles has several fun facts.
Here are ten top fun facts about jungles:
1) The word ‘Jungle’ comes from a Indian Sanskrit word for ‘uncultivated land’.
2)Over half of the world’s species are actually found in the jungle environment.
3)Jungles only cover around 6% of the Earth’s surface, not bad for hold over half the world’s species.
4) The saying ‘The Law of the Jungle’ comes from comes from Rudyard Kipling’s collection of stories called The Jungle Book, published in 1894.
5)Although, Lions are often called ‘Kings of the Jungle’, and the famous song ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ song, says the lion is asleep in the Jungle, this is rather misleading as Lion’s don’t live or sleep in Jungles, they live on the savannah and grassland.
6)A Bengal or Sumatran tiger would be the biggest cat of the Jungle. Perhaps a Tiger card, with a tiger hiding in the jungle would be a nice card for future designs?
7)Although the terms Jungles and Rainforests could be seen as describing the same thing, there is a distinct difference. Rainforests are areas where the vegetation has a thicker canopy of tall trees that block out light, while jungles allow more light in, making it easier for plants to grow. Normally Jungles are found surrounding rainforests.
8)Jungle canopies are often around a 130ft high!
9)Some parts of a Jungle canopy, are so dense that it takes rainwater 10 minutes to reach the ground.
Many animals just live in the canopies of Jungles, and never have to touch the ground, as everything they need, including water is found in the trees.
10)The ropes that Tarzan is often depicted as swinging on are actually called ‘lianas’, from the Latin ‘ligare’, meaning ‘to bind’. They twist their way around the canopy of a jungle and bind the treetops together. They can live for hundreds of years and reach half a mile long.
